Job Posting SEO Checklist for Employers and Publishers
Job SEO is mainly an accuracy and accessibility discipline. A well-structured vacancy page should be easy for a candidate to understand, easy for a crawler to retrieve and removed or updated promptly when the role closes.
Page and content checks
Use a specific visible job title and write an original description of responsibilities, qualifications, employer and application process. Include the location or clearly explain remote eligibility, employment type, posting date and closing date. Make the apply action work without requiring misleading steps.
Keep important text in HTML, use one canonical URL and avoid duplicate versions created by filters or tracking parameters. Link the vacancy from a crawlable careers or category page and provide useful related-job navigation.
Metadata and structured-data checks
Write a concise search title and description that match the visible vacancy. Validate JobPosting JSON-LD and ensure its title, description, dates, employer, location and employment facts agree with the page. Never apply job markup to a list page, expired opportunity or page without a real vacancy.
Use a canonical URL and mainEntityOfPage that resolve to the public job. Check date formats and the website timezone. Treat validation as a floor: accurate markup can make a page eligible, but it cannot guarantee crawling, indexing or a rich search presentation.
Discovery and publication checks
Confirm the URL returns 200, is not blocked by robots directives and appears in the relevant XML sitemap. Test it without a signed-in session. Optional Google Indexing API notifications may be used for eligible job URLs when correctly authorized.
Inspect internal links and archive pagination. A candidate should be able to reach the role through the site, not only from an external campaign. Monitor application links and contact routes immediately after launch.
Expiry and maintenance checks
On closure, stop accepting applications and remove active JobPosting markup. Update or remove the URL deliberately, notify supported discovery services when configured and prevent expired listings from remaining in active archives.
Keep an audit trail of publication, edits and expiry. EdgeOrigin provides schema validation and expiry controls, but the editor remains responsible for the visible vacancy, employer claims and application experience.
EdgeOrigin publishes practical website guidance grounded in current platform capabilities. We do not promise search rankings. Product details and external search tools can change, so verify requirements that are critical to your business.
