How to Build a Job Posting Website
A useful job website helps a candidate understand a real vacancy and complete the next step safely. Start with the public information and operating workflow before adding search features or structured data.
Choose between a careers site and a job publication
A company careers site publishes vacancies for one organization and can explain culture, benefits and hiring practices. A job publication or board may aggregate roles across employers and needs stronger employer, category and moderation rules. The distinction affects navigation, permissions and candidate trust.
EdgeOrigin’s current strength is publishing structured vacancies as managed content. It is not a full applicant-tracking system, resume database, paid-listing marketplace or candidate pipeline. Confirm specialist workflows separately.
Design one complete page per vacancy
Show the job title, hiring organization, responsibilities, qualifications, workplace location or remote policy, employment type, posting and closing dates, and a working application method. Avoid hiding critical details inside images or structured data alone.
Use stable readable URLs and link each job from a relevant archive, employer page or careers page. Explain what happens after an application and identify any geographic, authorization or schedule restrictions clearly.
Add structured data that matches the page
JobPosting JSON-LD can help eligible search systems interpret a real vacancy. Required and recommended fields must describe what candidates can see. A physical role needs an accurate location; a fully remote role needs the appropriate telecommute representation.
EdgeOrigin validates required job fields, aligns the structured URL with the canonical public page and removes active job markup after the selected expiry date. Eligibility and search appearance remain decisions of the search provider, never a platform guarantee.
Operate expiry and corrections responsibly
Assign an owner for each vacancy and closing date. When a role closes, disable the application route and remove active JobPosting markup. The page may explain that applications are closed, redirect to a useful archive or be removed with appropriate HTTP behavior.
Review feeds, sitemaps, internal links and indexing notifications after material changes. Keep visible content, schema and application status synchronized so candidates are never invited to apply for a role that is no longer available.
EdgeOrigin publishes practical website guidance grounded in current platform capabilities. We do not promise search rankings. Product details and external search tools can change, so verify requirements that are critical to your business.
